A New Year Update for 2024 and Beyond
Hello everyone. I hope you all had a fun and safe New Year. Things have been rather quiet around here lately, and while I had plans for articles and episodes last month I had some personal and family matters that needed my attention. With that said, I have been giving some careful thought to the future of The Retro Millennial and wanted to share some of what I’m thinking with you all.
I started this publication back in 2022 as a fun little hobby. It still is, but as more and more people have subscribed and more of you have signed up as paid subscribers, I have tried to put out more and more to make sure everyone is getting their time and money’s worth. The problem I’m facing is that this was never meant to be a second job. I already work a full-time job in tech and my family needs my attention when I’m at home. Couple that with some difficult things I’m work through from my childhood, as well as the fact that time in the day is limited and I’m finding it difficult to keep up with the workload that I have put on myself. For context, in addition to everything I just mentioned, in 2023 I released 38 free and paid articles and recorded 30 free and paid podcast episodes in 11 months (approximately 6.2 pieces of content per month). That might not sound like a lot for some people, but it’s just too much for me at this time.
To be clear, I have every intention of continuing to release articles, but I need to set out a clear focus for the future of The Retro Millennial as I navigate this season of life and set my priorities in order. Here is what I am thinking:
I am no longer going to be running sales or promoting the paid subscriptions. I will, of course, be honoring existing subscriptions and will be releasing paid content for you all.
Regarding the podcast feeds, for the time being I am going to suspend the main show. I will continue with New-Old Stock for the already paying members, but it will likely be limited to event coverage and the like. Don’t hold me to that though, we’ll just have to play that one by ear.
Articles, for the most part are going to be unchanged. If anything, there will probably be more articles in the long run, with the only real change being more of them being exclusives for the paid subscribers to fill out what they’re getting.
I hope I was able to clearly explain my thoughts to you all, and I hope you all know how much I truly appreciate your support in this little endeavor of mine. Last year The Retro Millennial saw tremendous growth, and of all of my writing projects over the years, it’s been the most successful by far; as a result I got a little too excited and ambitious. I’m looking forward to reseting and coming into 2024 with a fresh perspective and a solid game plan.
