Today I thought I would do something a little different than what we normally do here at The Retro Millennial. I recently acquired a new computer mouse… but not just any computer mouse. A trackball mouse! While trackballs were much more popular back in the 90s, they still have quite the following among a niche group of users today.
I started using a trackball pretty much full time — along with an ergonomic keyboard — back in 2021 as a way to help alleviate the tendonitis pain in my wrists. It was definitely a bit funky to use at first, but after a few weeks of daily use I got better at it. These days using it is second nature and I find myself often being more accurate with it than I am with a standard mouse.
I was interested in this trackball as a backup for when I am working out of the office and don’t want to be stuck using a touchpad all day. While there are quite a few options for trackballs these days, I prefer the ones that you control with your index finger rather than your thumb. With all that said, let’s check out the Orbit Fusion Wireless Trackball from Kensington.
