My method is much easier.

1. Go to Ebay

2. Buy a genuine copy of Windows XP (because we don't like pirates)

3. Nuke and Pave your system (because backups are for wimps)

4. Enjoy a simpler, more relaxing time

Well, yeah. Obviously that's a better method, but if you're stuck using newer Windows it's helpful to make it better. It's like WSL. Do I like it? Not really. Is it as good as a Linux desktop? Of course not. Would I rather have it than not? Yeah.

I just really wish drivers were available for XP or 2K for any hardware I actually have ☹️

I think it would run on PIII systems, but those are more well suited to 98.

Have you tried finding NT 4.0 drivers for them? Those might work.
